You have probably seen videos of this new trend on the Total Frat Move or Old Row Official Instagrams accompanied by #heaterflip along with lots of likes and comments, but what is the heater flip, and why did it become a trend so quickly? Is this dangerous new trend just a fun party trick, or does it actually take some real talent?
A heater flip consists of a person taking a lit cigarette from his or her mouth, spitting it up into the air (so that it flips), then catching it back in his or her mouth, filter side down. It is a craze that is sweeping Snapchat and Instagram, but my one concern is that there is really no way to practice such a skill. You may just have to have enough faith in your abilities not to burn the f*** out of your lips.
According to Tom Console, a representative for Donkey Punch Productions, which was created by a group of friends managing a self-proclaimed, outrageous video page, this trend started in the early 2000s. The group was in high school at the time, and they did not think to post this until TFM brought it back into focus.
Console was featured in the video and said that until they decided to film it, he had not tried the heater flip since learning it in high school.
“When I filmed this, it only took me two takes, and that was the first time I tried it in years,” said Console.
They hope to be featured on other outrageous video pages while this trend is still at the forefront.
If you haven’t seen these amazing heater flip videos, I urge you to check them out!
