Coffee: the second-most consumed beverage by college students (lol). In fact, according to a research study conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health, the average American college student consumes 3.1 cups a day, spending roughly $2.45 per cup. So let’s do the math here: approximately 3 cups at $2.45 a cup equals $51.45 spent on coffee per week. Yikes. That means students can spend up to $2,675.40 on coffee every year.
There’s no arguing that without coffee, our mornings would be sluggish, and our ability to stay awake during 8 a.m. classes would be practically impossible. But being a broke college student makes spending a lot of money not very ideal. Have no fear everyone, one of America’s most famous coffee shops is here to save the day—and your wallet.
Dunkin’ Donuts offers a wide array of coffee choices and flavors that satisfy all types of taste buds. Its prices are much lower than that of its competitors (i.e. Starbucks), and you get much more for what you pay for.
One of the biggest ways to save with Dunkin’ Donuts is by downloading its app. Not only does it allow you to order your beverage directly from the app to pick up in-store, but it also offers sales promotions. If you refer a friend to the app, you get a free beverage.
Dunkin’ uses a points system that lets you earn free beverages or donuts the more you visit each store, which includes a free beverage on your birthday. Best present ever, right? Oh, and did I mention there’s a Dunkin’ emoji keyboard?
Another way to save is by purchasing Dunkin’s reusable cups, which you can fill up with your favorite hot or cold beverage anytime you visit. After spending the initial retail price for the cup, you are able to refill it for only $0.99 for the rest of your life! So instead of spending about $51 a week on coffee, you’re spending close to $20; that cuts spending by over half!
Did you know that you can also add more than one flavor to your coffee? Instead of just ordering plain old vanilla, maybe order vanilla with mocha, or caramel with coconut. Fact: vanilla swirl iced coffee with cream and blueberry tastes exactly like Dunkin’s blueberry donuts. You’re welcome.
Hopefully, the next time you’re debating whether to head to Starbucks or Dunkin’ on your way to campus in the morning, you’ll listen to your wallet and taste buds before your natural instinct. May your Mondays be short and your coffee strong.
